At the feedback meeting of Project members discussing the first semester results, information about the initial outcomes of the "Jean Monnet Chair in European Union Law" grant project implemented by Tashkent State University of Law (TSUL) was presented and discussed.

During the first semester, the following activities were accomplished:

1.  The project was officially launched with a presentation (Kick-off meeting). The project team was formed, consisting of: Project Head – Professor Dildora Umarkhanova, Dean of the Faculty of International Law and Comparative Legislation; Project Coordinator – Khaydarali Yunusov, Chairholder of the Jean Monnet Chair; and Chair Assistants – Saidkomil Ibodullaev, Umida Sherkhanova, and Daler Valijonov.

2.  The "European Union Law" curriculum was developed and approved by the university's Academic Council.

3.  Lecture materials and handouts were prepared for bachelor's and master's degree students.

4.  An initial version of the project website was created.

5.  Negotiations were initiated to establish collaborative relationships with universities in European Union member states.

6.  Student assessment criteria were developed, and work began on creating a collection of tests and case studies for this purpose.

7.  In accordance with the project work plan, on December 23, 2022, a guest-lecturing and practical seminar-workshop on the topic “Development trends of the EU legal system and EU external relations” was organized at Tashkent State University of Law for young staff of relevant departments of the Ministry of Justice and faculty members of Tashkent State University of Law, within the framework of grant project 101048015 – JMCEUL – "Jean Monnet Chair in European Union Law".

Proposals for Improving Project Activities

Analysis of the first semester indicated that improvements are necessary in the following areas:

1.  Accelerate the creation of educational materials in the Uzbek language – develop a glossary of necessary terminology and establish a plan for translating key literature into Uzbek.

2.  Develop a collection of case studies and practical materials for seminar sessions – prepare translations of sample European Court of Justice decisions and create practical assignments.

3.  Improve the system for assessing students' knowledge levels – establish a bank of test questions and develop independent study assignments.

4.  Enrich the project website content – supplement with news, educational materials, and useful links.

5.  Expand international connections – sign specific cooperation agreements with at least 2-3 European universities.

To implement these tasks in the second semester, individuals responsible for each area were appointed and specific deadlines were established. Weekly meetings of project team members were planned to facilitate the exchange of experience and provide methodological assistance.
