Once the law is passed, hardware and software manufacturers will be required to implement cybersecurity measures throughout the entire product lifecycle, from design and development to bringing the product to market. Software and hardware products will be CE-marked to indicate that they meet the requirements of the regulation and can therefore be sold in the EU.

The law will also introduce an obligation for manufacturers to provide consumers with timely security updates for several years after purchase. This period should reflect the time during which the products are expected to be used.
